A public hearing today on Wisconsin's Medical Marijuana Act has sparked much debate regarding the prudence of providing marijuana to seriously ill patients. Detractors say the act is a gateway to legalizing marijuana for the masses, while proponents say it's about providing relief to those who need it most. Governor Doyle says he would support the bill, and President Obama has asked prosecutors to refrain from targeting people involved in the sale and use of medical marijuana in compliance with state law.
So, what does that mean to you? Have you read the act? I have, and I've broken it down into plain English. Read Wisconsin's Medical Marijuana Proposal Basics for details.
Currently, there are 13 states, including Michigan, with some type of medical marijuana law. Besides Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois are also discussing legislation.

Milwaukee will be getting a little crazy with its holiday spirit this weekend with three wacky celebrations.
- The Santa Cycle Rampage: Don your favorite red furry suit and join other Santas on a beer fueled bike ride through the streets of Milwaukee. The rampage starts at 10am at Cafe Hollander on Downer.
- Festivus on Brady Street: Air your grievances, exhibit feats of strength, and win Festivus poles this weekend at The Nomad, Regano's Roman Coin, Joe Cat's and Club Brady.
- Ugly Sweater Saturday: Listen to Christmas carolers, see talented artists make murals out of tacky attire, then rival the tackiness of said attire as you parade around the East Side in your best holiday sweater.
