Les Paul Exhibit to Open at Discovery World

Saturday May 3, 2008

The Waukesha Historical Society has been officially "scooped" by another local museum, Discovery World, in creating a Les Paul exhibit. Discovery World's "Les Paul's House of Sound" is scheduled to open June 21 and run through the end of the year.

Covering 3,000 feet, the exhibit will feature the replica of a workshop in which Paul developed many of his innovations, as well as feature an interactive component that will allow visitors to play, and record, along with Paul in a studio setting. The resulting recordings will then become part of the exhibit.

Les Paul was born in Waukesha in 1915, and is known for playing a pivotal role in the evolution of the guitar and in the recording industry. The Waukesha Historical Society has had plans to commemorate this native son with an exhibit for quite some time, but haven't yet raised the funds to build their exhibit. Officials from both the Historical Society and Discovery World have stated that they believe "Les Paul's House of Sound" and any subsequent exhibits, in Milwaukee, Waukesha or elsewhere, will only work to complement one another.
