Fondy Food Market Starts Season with Barbecue and Greens Contest

The Fondy Food Market will mark the beginning of its full-time season on Saturday, June 14. And if that's not enough in itself, this year, the market is beginning a new tradition with an inaugural-day battle between Milwaukee’s self-proclaimed Greens Chefs and Pit-masters in a Barbecue and Greens Contest.

Greens cook-off contest winners will be announced at 11 a.m., with chicken barbecue winners at noon and pork ribs barbecue winners at 1 p.m.

As great as these chefs may be, they are still only a highlight to the main event, which is local farmers selling fresh Wisconsin produce: look for early crops like strawberries, sugar snap peas and asparagus. Entertainment will also be provided throughout the day, including live music, spoken word poetry, raffles and a Little Tikes Tractor Pull.
