June 2008 Milwaukee's Wettest Month on Record
Not that it's news to anyone, but it's been raining around here lately. A lot. In fact, June 2008 is now officially Milwaukee's wettest month on record -- and it's not even half-way over yet. According to the National Weather Service, as of 4 p.m. on June 13, 2008, Milwaukee has received 10.71 inches of rainfall, up from the previous June record of 10.03 set in 1917 -- which also happened to be the former rainiest month on the books.
Here is a breakdown of our current June rain totals in relation to record-breaking months of the past, in order of rank, total amount of rain (in inches) and years:
- 1. 10.71 -- 2008
- 2. 10.03 -- 1917
- 3. 9.98 -- 1997
- 4. 8.28 -- 1954
- 5. 7.79 -- 1968
Not that this massive amount of precipitation should be completely unexpected. After all, we did just put Milwaukee's second-snowiest winter on record to bed mere months ago.
