The End of MPS?
On Thursday night the Milwaukee School Board voted 6-3 in favor of looking into the possibility of dissolving the Milwaukee Public School system. Members voting for the dissolution seem to have done so out of frustration over the current state of the system, which includes financial mismanagement, poor student achievement and rampant violence in some schools. At this point, however, such talk is largely symbolic because, as reported by Alan Borsuk on JS Online, dissolution of the MPS system would ultimately be up to the State Legislature.
