Are you a Milwaukee resident interested in voting, but you still need to register? No problem. There are two ways to do this: in person on election day, or in advance. Note: on busy election years, it is highly recommended that you register in advance. This will save you time.
How to Register in Advance of Election Day
Until October 15, voter registration is available at any Milwaukee Public Library or by mailing in the voter registration application from the Election Commission's website. (Note: mailed registration forms must be postmarked by October 15.) Voter registration is also available at the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 N. Broadway St., from October 7 through November 3.How to Register on Election Day
To register at your polling place on election day, you must bring proof that you have lived at your present location for at least 10 days preceding the election. Acceptable proof includes:- A current and valid Wisconsin driver's license.
- A current and valid Wisconsin identification card.
- Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
- Any identification card issued by an employer in the normal course of business and bearing a photo of the card holder. Business cards are NOT accepted.
- A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election.
- A residential lease which is effective for a period that includes election day.
- A university, college or technical institute identification card with photo.
- A gas, electric or telephone service statement (utility bill) issued within 90 days of the election day.
- A bank statement.
- A paycheck.
- A check or other document issued by a unit of government.
These items are only acceptable registration documents if they they state your:
- current and complete name, including both the given and family name.
- current and complete residential address, including a numbered street address, if any, and the name of a municipality.
Also note that forms with an expiration date must be valid on Election Day.
