Riverwest Co-Op Grocery & Cafe:

Located on the corner of Fratney and Clarke Streets in the Riverwest neighborhood, the Riverwest Co-Op is a great source of organic foods and local produce. Run by a limited paid staff and a plethora of volunteers, the grocery and adjacent cafe is as much a bohemian meeting place as a mere service stop for bread and milk. Vegetarians and vegans will find the goods in the store and offerings in the cafe particularly conducive to their needs -- think barbecued seitan and tofu ice cream instead of just the ubiquitous veggie burger.

Location:

The Riverwest Co-Op Cafe and Grocery is located at:
733 E. Clarke St.

Hours:

7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday - Friday
8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday

Phone:

414.264.7933

Fun Fact:

The Riverwest Co-Op Grocery & Cafe is located in a former Schlitz "tied house," a corner tavern owned by a brewery and hence required to shill only their product. Such former Schlitz properties are found all over the city, but the repainted sign on the Co-Op's exterior makes this building particularly noticeable.
