Miller Park is home to Major League Baseball team the Milwaukee Brewers. The stadium generally gets high marks with baseball fans for its unobstructed views and relative accessibility. It seats 41,900, including 70 luxury suites. Miller Park is not a walking destination for most, however, as it's situated west of downtown in an industrial area, and flanked by far-reaching parking lots. But what makes Miller Park bad for foot traffic also makes it perfect for tailgating, and the stadium's parking lots are a habitual party for three hours prior to each home game, and well into the first few innings.
Miller Park's most famous feature is its retractable roof. The 12,000-ton, seven-panel roof opens and closes almost silently in just 10 minutes. Inside, the roof reaches 200 feet above the playing field. Outside, the highest arch towers 30 stories, and is easily seen from I-94 and vantage points throughout the city. The design of the roof also allows enough sunlight for a grass field.
Construction on Miller Park began in 1996, and the stadium opened in 2001, one year behind schedule. It was built on the grounds of County Stadium, which was demolished in 2001. While most of the park was converted to parking, the infield of County Stadium was preserved and converted to a little league park called Helfaer Field.
